The Mission of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Values, and Principles

Mission, Values, and Principles of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, part of the "Aurel Vlaicu" University of Arad, works towards fully integrating into the European Higher Education Area. To ensure academic quality, essential transformations have been made in the curricula and course descriptions.

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences has outlined a few directions for action that are in line with the current legislation as well as the requirements included in the evaluation methodology, reference standards, and performance indicators established by the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS). These include:

  • Training highly qualified specialists in the field of philology through the doctoral school program;
  • Training specialists in philology and public administration at both bachelor’s and master’s levels;
  • Training specialists in journalism and Pentecostal theology at the bachelor’s level;
  • Continuous modernization of bachelor’s and master’s degree programs;
  • Integration of teaching and research by contributing to the scientific research activity through the Department of Linguistics and Modern and Specialized Languages;
  • Promotion of scientific and academic collaborations with other higher education institutions from Romania and the European university area;
  • Promotion of cooperation with students, graduates, and the local economy.

In line with the efforts to align Romanian education with European standards, the main objectives of our educational policy are:

  • Continuous improvement of curricula and course descriptions to meet both internal and international standards;
  • Maintaining high standards in promoting teaching staff in accordance with current legal regulations;
  • Providing course materials and practical work guides for all subjects in the curriculum, authored by the faculty members themselves;
  • Computerization of faculty activities, equipping laboratories with high-performance equipment and computer technology;
  • Involving young faculty members in scientific research and perfecting their skills through postdoctoral courses;
  • Organizing symposia and scientific communication sessions within the university, both for faculty and students;
  • Participating in national and international scientific events;
  • Promoting faculty and student exchanges with similar institutions in Romania and abroad;
  • Involving students and master's candidates in research activities and scientific work;
  • Publishing scientific research through articles in specialized journals;
  • Collaborating with other higher education institutions from Romania and abroad for the exchange of scientific publications.

The need for the specializations offered by the faculty stems from the following reasons:

Graduates of these specializations are prepared to work as teachers in pre-university education (in gymnasiums for graduates with a bachelor’s degree and 60 credits in the pedagogical module; in high schools for graduates with a master's degree and 120 credits in the pedagogical module), as researchers in philology, communication, various educational institutions, culture, mass media, religious institutions, commercial companies, public administration institutions, as well as for teaching activities.

The current economic situation makes it difficult to pursue studies far from home due to high schooling costs (travel, accommodation, meals). The western part of the country, including the city and county of Arad, is highly industrialized, representing an area with high economic development potential, where the dynamic creation and development of SMEs offer jobs for graduates. It should be noted that graduate generations have been fully absorbed by the labor market.

From the perspective of integration into the European Higher Education Area, while preserving the valuable traditions of Romanian education, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences promotes a strategic, dynamic, and efficient quality management, thus contributing to increasing the national and international prestige of the "Aurel Vlaicu" University of Arad.

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is committed to promoting cultural, educational, and specialized skills development at an excellent level, based on innovative knowledge, lifelong learning, and interculturality.

The faculty’s specialized teaching staff has a high scientific potential, consisting of professors, associate professors, lecturers, and university assistants, with their primary work being at the university.

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the "Aurel Vlaicu" University of Arad trains philologists, public officials, journalists, and theologians at a high professional level, ensured by:

  • Studying basic and specialized subjects at the current European level;
  • Offering elective subjects aligned with European requirements;
  • Conducting scientific research within Student Scientific Circles;
  • Participating in research contracts.

Practice has demonstrated that the study programs offered by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences are essential, considering that Romania's economic relaunch and integration into the European Union require specialists in the humanities and social sciences, trained to meet current labor market demands, capable of delivering quality work in the mentioned fields.

Following the UAV's overall strategy, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences has defined its own strategy, based on the social, cultural, and academic values of UAV.

These are:

  • Increasing research capacity;
  • Improving the educational process;
  • Expanding the social and cultural role;
  • Focusing on quality and encouraging performance in teaching and research;
  • Aligning education and research with European standards;
  • Strengthening responsible partnership with students;
  • Enhancing the entrepreneurial dimension of the university;
  • Increasing international visibility;
  • Active and responsible academic participation at both national and international levels;
  • Ensuring the quality of education and research.
